When I first built my shop, I heated with a modern air tight wood furnace. It produced tremendous heat, so much in fact I had to keep it set as low as it would go, and sometimes open a window to cool the place down. In the low setting, it generated a lot of creosote. I then switched to a pellet stove. Our winters can easily get to 30 below zero. My shop is T Shirt Warm. I turn the temperature down at night. On super cold mornings I turn up the pellet stove and also fire up my oil salamander for about 5 minutes for a quick boost in temperature. Then the pellet stove carries the temperature. I am very pleased with its operation. Pellets are cheap and easy to store in 40 pound plastic bags. I also have a pellet stove in my Greenhouse and Solar Room in my home.
