Here is a option you can do without spot welding unless you have already removed the old side rails. The rail has a lip on the edge you can take a grinder and cut that off straight as close to the bolt holes but leave a little metal for the bolt to grab. Then take your new rail and put it on top use the thin fender rubber welt between the bed and rail,this will give the strenth and look you want and no one will know unless they crawl under for a close inspection. This way no welding is required.This will only work if the old rails are still on the truck .Hope I made sence and this could help
