door handle

I've been messing around with my door handles and all the finishing touches. I find it odd with the drivers door handle in the down position( which I think is right) that you have to push it forward to open the door. Seem like it would be right to have to pull it to open the door. Maybe I have something wrong like a right side door latch mechanism in the drivers door if if that could even be done? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
