The bolts that hold the fenders on in the second and third series beds are always in the horizontal plane. They go through a lip that is bent 90 degrees to the fender surface. see this picture http://www.t137.com/ID/2ndRearFenders.htm The bolts can be seen from the underside of the fender on the inside edge of the fender and go to the sidewall of the bedside.
In the first series there is no lip and the bolts basically go through an extension of the fender surface and bolt to the inner fender of the bed.
