Any Dana 60 experts out there?

I just replaced the pinion seal in my Dana 60. Funny thing was that the pinion nut wasn't screwed on very tight when I took it apart. When I put it back together, I tightened down to the 200lb spec I had always heard, but that locked the pinion up tight. Had to loosen it to get it to turn - what's up? Shim problem?
