In low compression engines such as the 230-251's 7.?:1 a lower octane fuel is more desirable. The energy content in lower octanes is higher btu per gallon than that of a "premium" fuel. With the proper timing a low compression engine on 87-89 octane fuel makes more power with lower exhaust temperatures(somthing your valves will appreciate). Unless your timimg is too advanced and your under high heat/load your just wasting your money. With the price of fuel as it is today everyone should do some research on fuel performance, not just assume expensive fuel is better fuel for every application. In doubt, someone call Myth busters.
