Howdy:
Well, I just got my Durango back after 48 days in the body shop. Ain't happy and I hope Allstate steps up and does the right thing.
Anywho, what with the recent increase in fuel prices, my more immediate concern is mileage. I have a 2001 Durango R/T. That means the 360 with 46R trans. 3:5? gears. Durango's were never known for their good gas mileage, so I did a few things to help it out and was getting about 20 MPG combo city/highway. I was content with that.
I had the D in for warranty work on the tranny. The valve body was replaced 3 times. I had suspected a bad TPS, but I'm just a stupid customer, so they totally disregarded what I thought, and went right ahead and started on VB's. Never corrected the issues, only made things worse. I finally replaced the TPS on my own, and it did help a bit, but I'm affraid other damage was done. Still, that's not what my quest is about.
My 20 MPG has dropped like a bloody rock to 8, on a good day. It is very depressing to watch the gas gauge drop as your driving. I haven't a clue what they did to my truck. Everything seems to be in spec.
Anybody have any ideas where I can start looking? Like I said, according to the computers, everything seems to be in spec. This was NOT a gradual change either. It's NOT the gauge either, I DO use the gas.
Here's the extras I already have on my D, that I installed to improve the mileage before. I have a Fastman throttle body, cold air intake and shorty headers. This got me to the 20. The R/T comes with the DynoMax flow thru mufflers. Again, this was a SUDDEN change.
I do have a suspicion that my cat may have gone, or is going bad, but could that cause such a sudden drop in mileage? I don't want to take the shotgun approach to fixing it (just start replacing things and hope for the best). Oh, plugs and wires are good too.
HELP!
