current generation axle assemblies in a FFPW

Since Ray has retired and disc brake kits are no longer available, has anyone explored installing current generation axles with disc brakes in a PW? I like the idea of discs but is it worth the hassle? Are the stock drum brakes suitable for a Sunday driver with a stock engine?
