Hi all,
Went to see Bill Lammers today, bought a bunch of M-37 parts and had a great visit. The van (1999 Dodge Grand Caravan, All Wheel Drive)was running great. Went to church tonite, I rode with my Mother, Joan and the kids followed in the van. When we arrived at the church, Joan tells me that the transmission would not shift down. Also the speedometer was not working and the service engine light was on. I drove it home, and it was as she described. Drives fine but just wont kick down. I checked the fluid when I got home, the level is down in the add section, if full should have been up in the "hot" section. The fluid was clear and didnt smell burnt. Adding fluid (ATF +3)is about the extent of my knowledge of automatic transmisions. Not knowing if it might be an electrical problem, effecting the speedometer and maybe a shifting soleniod (if there is such a thing?)
So, I would really hate to replace a transmission in my mothers carport, and then find out that it was a fuse or something. (I did check all the fuses and the distribution box and found nothing mentioning the speedo or the transmission.)
Any suggestions on troubleshooting this problem? I am on a borrowed computer now and may get a chance to chec in tomorrow. If anyone wants to call me directly, my cell # is (802) 989-4106
Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!
Tim
