Todd...never used POR patch. Maybe oneday. I'm not a do it all in POR kinda guy. But on the 1957 300's and other vehicles if you want to try to do them right some parts are "natural" steel color so we use their natural. Have tried to shoot a clear on these parts but they never look right even after cleaning well. Have to coat with something otherwise they will flash over with rust and look like crap.
Not sure what other people are doing not to get good adhesion. My frames are not silky smooth when blasted. My only problem lies in getting some of the sand grains that are imbedded in the pores to come out(steel/wire brush the whole thing). Very labor intensive but I feel good and comfortable with the finished product not having to redo it it X amount of years later because of rock chipping or peeling etc. I light sand between each cured coat so it takes a while to complete.
On another note my black painted original PW jack had poor preparation no sealer just primer and I picked it up last week to move it and all the paint fell off in sheets. It had regular paint on it. My bad got in a hurry.
