Forget any instant catastrophe or news story. Just look at the trend: When Diesel engines began to appear in cars, Diesel went up to catch, and occasionally exceed, gasoline prices.
When I was a little squirt, gas was $0.20. Hi-test was $0.23. Diesel was $0.15.
That means that Diesel was 3/4 the cost of regular.
Even accounting for inflation, OPEC, war criminals influencing the White House, or little green men, if regular is at $2.40, Diesel should be $1.80.
The laws of physics, including the ones that govern oil refractory, don't change.
What changes, generally for the worse, is greed.
