I've sold two vehicles to people in canada in the fast few months, and both times I had to fax a copy of the title and bill of sale to customs two to three days before the vehicles got there.
In the one case the fax didn't show up and they would not let the car across until I sent them a fax with a bill of sale. the shipper was a little upset.
That is what I know about customs, not sure if that helps.
