So what your sayin is that all engineers are infallible and design the perfect product right from the get go. Like the Hindenberg or Titanic or Corvair? There's no room for improvement right? How about the Durango ball joints? I could go on and on.
That bein said, if your gettin the truck for historic reasons and can afford to sit on it as is, GREAT! If your gettin a truck to work, and needs improvement (even though your starting with a good platform), than what your sayin is TOUGH LUCK BUDDY, Don't you dare. It was designed to get about in very rugged conditions that rarely exsist anymore, so upgrade to make it better, ya just better tough it out and maybe even get yourself killed (or someone else) in the process. Become a traffic hazzard on the road, ect, ect.
The PW is an offshoot of the WC, and basically the same vehicle, with all the same basic parts all thru it's exsistance. Yes it was reliable, and the 6 cyl is a torquey engine, but I always felt it underpowered.
If it was so perfect as is, do ya think the military woulda ever replaced em? Personally, if I ever got a clean stock truck, I'd probably leave it as is, for historic reasons. It also wouldn't be a daily driver as I'd be scared of all the non driving morons on the road.
Ugg's #1 Rule Of Thumb On Driving; If the thing starts, it NEEDS to stop! Heat or ac is a luxury. YA NEED GOOD BRAKES! I've driven a few Flintstone vehicles in my time and I can honestly say "SCREW THAT!" The dual chamber MC's are a great upgrade. Did I make my point? ;>) Just my $.02.
