How did he settle on 5K? It sounds like he loaned you 2K.
Did he have you sign an IOU or anything? Or did he pay for the trucking directly?
Either way, I can't see how he can claim any ownership when he isn't on the papers. Let HIM go to court and prove his ownership. You should go down to the bank and get a loan or an advance on your credit card and pay this jerk off. JUST the money he loaned you. A simple loan will only take a couple days, an advance would be immediate. Don't let him extort any more out of you. And please get a signed receipt with an explanation of what it is for. Paid in full, not a deposit, etc...
If he doesn't want to sign or still hand over the truck with payment, call the State Troopers. YOU have papers, he doesn't. I suppose you could use your keys to drive it off at night and then let him explain how it is his truck to the police when he can't prove it.
