I have seen some early civilian Power-Wagons that were delivered new to the government. Remember, that between 1945 and 1951 there were no 1/2 or 3/4 ton militarized Dodge trucks being produced for the government. The aging militarized trucks left over from WWII did not always fit a particular purpose the government had in mind and some civilian Power-Wagons were bought to fill these needs. There were just enough of these bought by the goverment to stick in some people's minds and cause them to refer to all Power-Wagons as "army trucks".
The first thought that comes to mind as you describe the paint on your truck is the Atomic Energy Commission. I believe this is the correct name for that particular branch of the government and I have heard people talking on this forum and others about gray trucks that were used by them. The Coast Guard may also be more likely than the Navy. Have seen some Air Force civilian Power-Wagons too in Air Force Blue.
Do you have any photos from before you started dismantling the truck?
