The gooseneck trailer is a pretty heavy trailer compared to a regular trailer. Going uphill with a load, even a small grade, makes any vehicle work harder, and if the cooling system, even in perfect shape, isn't large enough to handle the increased stress, it can overheat quickly. Headgaskets are prolly good, if they weren't, it would overheat without a load fast. I'm assuming the radiator isn't old...old radiators lose their efficiency, especially when pushed. Manny makes a good point about whether the truck is geared properly. I would also have to ask if the trailer's brakes and wheel bearings are good or if they might be tight?
Hope this helps, good luck!
