Electric fuel pump

I had to go to a electric fuel pump because the cam lobe seems to have worn down and will not pump manual fuel pump. I've reinstalled it 4 times to make sure I'm on the correct side of the cam. The Question - Is this why so many people run electrics? I think I'll check the cam with a dial indicator, and change it if worn. Any suggestions or comments? PS Our reformulated gas eats up electric pumps diaphrams. Thanks Kurly
