I have done it quite a few times. mild cam, shaved head larger main jet in single carb, 2 inch single exhaust. The fuel concern is irrelevant as the early engines were designed to run on 70 to 75 octane fuel. So increasing compression to 8.5 to 9.0 to 1 and increasing cam size will not result in any pre detonation problems at all running regular 89 octane fuel. It works very well, makes the truck feel much more modern when driving. Steve
