That V-8 Detroit Diesel rumor has been around for years, since at least 1999, I have no idea when it will come as the programs keep switching priorities, however, since developement was started on that motor, Detroit Diesel was purchased by D/C and the 2.8 diesel in the Jeep Liberty is built by an Italian division of Detroit Diesel, so several motors by them are on the radar screen. Merc is designing new lighter CRD motors, Detroit is owned by D/C, so it makes the whole outsourcing concept to Cummins questionable in the long term future, unless D/C also buys Cummins ......
