On the MU2, it really does not matter much whether the gear set is left or right handed. You can still spool off the bottom of the drum with using either gear set. The gears don't care which side of the teeth are being loaded unlike the ring and pinion gears in a drive axle. Both sides of the teeth on both the winch worm and gear have the same profile. The only difference is in the variation in speed of the POWER-WAGON PTO depending upon which way it is rotating. I have an L gear set in one of my MU2 winches. It just pulls the cable in a little faster, and pays it out a little slower than the old R set that I took out. I believe the rotational speeds of the PTO are something like 47% of engine speed when rotating one direction and 61% when rotating the other.
