Yes, I move my lever to the rear to wind in the cable on the bottom of the drum. So, the cable does wind in a little faster at any given engine RPM than it would with the "R" gear set. However, this makes it kind of nice for lowering old windmills to the ground as the cable now pays out slower. I have never noticed a loss of winching capability due to the increased speed of winding the cable in. I always use a snatch block and double line the cable, so the difference between 47% and 61% would be cut in half anyway. I did reverse the brake band, though I have never seen any great effect that it has. The worm and gear seem to be naturally very resistant to rotational forces imposed from the drum end.
