Some guys brag about long flat tows with the M37. I have only done it a few miles at a time and think is the worst design to flat tow I know. I would rent one of the carhauler trailers that the nationwide company rents. I talked to one of their repair men about overloading their rental carhauler. He said that he had never seen an axle failure even tho they technically gross out at 7,000 lbs. The M37 is roughly 6,000 and small enough to fit nicely. You'd probably be grossing a little over 8,000 with surge brakes. Just make sure the tires are about 10 pounds over their printed max pressure and give it a shot. I would ten times rather face 400 miles that way than a flat tow, assuming that you've got the hoss to drag it with.
My $.02.
