M-37 not starting

Is it common for M-37 batteries to go dead after sitting around a while? I havent run it in about 3 months and the batteries are too weak to start it. This has happend before. The batteries are fairly new, the belt is tight and the amp gauge shows a full charge. I guess could use a long ride which I havent done in a while. Any ideas? thanks, Bill
