Mike,
I looked at the Picture of your toys and they look great. I watched the video and listened to the shift noises! WOW! I felt like I was watching a friend kick his dog. All these old trucks even the few w/ synchronized trannys like to be double clutch down shifted. Most benefit from double clutching the upshift as well.
Quite simple and easy to perform once you know what to do...like most tasks.
Anyway: when Upshifting, shift into N then release the clutch, depress the clutch a 2nd time and shift into the higher gear, release clutch. Take your time, don't rush and FEEL the gear go in when it is ready. This will help tremendously and permit a nearly silent up-shift.
Downshifting: Apply brake to begin slowing down. Depress clutch, Shift into N and release the clutch. Rev the engine (slightly higher than the RPM needed for the next lower gear) then depress the clutch a second time and shift into lower gear, release clutch. Even a synchro tranny likes this and will help the tranny last much longer. The ability to rev then engine while braking is the preffered technique known as "heel & toe" and allows a smoother down shift but all that is needed for the shift itself is a rev w/ or w/o braking.
Again be patient and FEEL the gear go in when it is ready.
Downshift: Brake, clutch in,N, clutch out, Rev engine, clutch in, Gear down, clutch out!
Upshift: Clutch in, N, Clutch out, Wait 1-2 second, Clutch in, upshift, Clutch out!
Great looking toys, enjoy driving them well.
Keep'em rolling, Jim Pace
