Good luck on your new purchase. I have a '97 and have had nothing but admiration for my 3500. I have installed a "Banks" power pack
in it and some other "goodies" to really wake her up. The oil weight you need to run will either be 15w-40 or 5w-30 I would not look into using synthetic oil until you have around 15,000 or more miles on the motor. The BT Cummins is extremely well built and needs significant time to seat the bearings, rings, etc... I use Amsoil oil exclusively and use Amsoil, Hasting, or Donaldson filters. The stock fuel and oil filters that are "Dodge-Mopar" are actually Cummins filters that are made for Dodge. You can use Fleetguard filters as well.
