Windshields have to be Laminated- except some new ones use one layer of plastic, one of glass. I guess they don't want you to go right on through, into the street. You can cut your own, using a glass cutter and a knife to cut the inner soft plastic. Sand the dges with a belt sander. I'd suspect that glass shops use a gun for the mastic today, I used surplus 2-part RTV silicone in 76, it stunk like doo-doo. Thats the only one I did.
