Just now removed the external coil wire out of the dist and it was broke down for some reason? It was a old one to start with and made of carbon. It seems to be my weak link in my spark because every thing else looks good. I am going to replace it with a Copper Core one. The spark out of the coil is 3/4" long but at the plug wire it was only a 1/8" long. It was loosing a lot of spark between the coil and the dist cap. I have a modified Military dist and my 12v coil is mounted outside of it on the fire wall. I gutted the 24v coil and ran the wire up into it to the brass tab and refilled the empty coil housing with bondo and it has a hole to push the wire up into it now. Just the wire I used was out of a older car with a lot of miles on it and I guess I should have bought a new one like I have to now! Staying away from the carbon ones the copper core is stronger and better for the aplication I have. The hot spark should fire off the plugs better and I was lucky it fired them at all the condition the wire was in. Mark H.
