I think I finally figured out the problem.
It seems that neither of the two new flasher units I picked up from Roberts are proper for a Signal Stat 900.
They are in deed 6 Volt, and they do have 3 prongs. However, they dont allign with the wires, as configured by the 900 unit & flasher I purchased from VPW.
Even after swapping the wires around to mimic the VPW unit, they still didnt work correctly. One continued to short out through the casing.
I found a very old flasher in the house stock and tried it, thinking that because it was so old it must be bad. It wasnt.
That old unit (made it the USA) still works, where the new imported units that Roberts supplied wouldnt.
Not drawing any conclusions, passing any judgements, or speaking against Roberts, but God bless the USA and the workmanship of the parts made here!
It was probably my fault that the imported units failed. After all, why would I ever think to put an imported anything in a genuine piece of Americana?
Thanks to all for your advice and direction.
Stay safe.
