I think I'd better keep the tranny as the top priority. It's an old brush truck (water tender) and it looks to be a dry summer coming up, and I'd like to have some mobile water available to me. I've got a pretty good idea what it's going to take to fix that hydramatic, and it won't be be easy. Did you rebuild yours yourself or did you take it to a shop? Do you know what Boyce used for a 5-speed conversion? Is it anything I might be able to scrounge up somewhere? It would sure be nice if I could attach a spicer 3052 to it, but that seems like a real long shot. What's the Memphis conversion? A neighbor has a hydramatic out of an old Cadillac he'd probably give me, but it has enough differences just on the outside that I'm not sure if I could use it, unless I just wanted to salvage some of the innards out of it. It's definitely close, but not exactly the same, even not counting that it doesn't have an oil cooler or the two-speed box on the rear.

I saw Hern's website. It looks to be a modern foundry, not an old-time one. I still can't remember what I saw "Hern" on but maybe it was a manhole cover or lamp post base or something. When I get down to your end of the state I'll have to at least stop in and say hi and see what you've got.
