I pulled the head on my WC-51 yesterday and found the exhaust valve on the #5 cylinder was stuck open. I pushed on it with my thumb and “click” it popped down to seat. I turned the engine through several revolutions with the hand crank and that valve moved up and down just fine. I’m confident I’ll get compression on that cylinder now, but would a stuck exhaust valve explain the compression in the crankcase I was getting? It seams everything would just flow out the exhaust port. I need to check cylinder wall wear and rings I guess.
Despite my best efforts to protect it, I still managed to break the temp. gauge line… and it looks like it was an original gage too. (Rats!) But I can’t be too disappointed; I may have just dodged rebuild/new motor cost. I need to do some more cleaning and inspection, and then I’ll re-assemble and see what happens.
