Electric pumps..I have found that the extreme upward angles of 100-115 % (45-55 degrees) That the original fuel pump is prone to not having enough 'suck' to pull gas from the original PW tank located way at the rear and equal to the frame height...thus installing an electric pump as close to the tank as possible comes in mighty handy!! ie: the time I went down Lion's Back Backwards with NO BRAKES! It was the mechanical pump (new at the time) that could not supply gas to the carb on the extrame upward angle. A simple mistake that a lot of people make is to install the electric pump near the engine...electric pumps have way less suction than they do pressure that is why it is recommended you install one as near to the tank as they will push better than pull liguids. (Note the number of current made vehicles with 'in-tank' fuel pumps!) I even put a 24 volt electric on my M37! I have the toggle switch on the dash and it's labled 'TURBO BOOST'! I have never had any fuel problems in any of my trucks since! I only use the electric when climbing VERY STEEP obstacles, otherwise the original pumps is always in use. Of course no matter what pump you have the old carb can rear it's ugly head and flood out on you going up steep / bumpy climbs...oh well...still working on a throttle body injection system...someday!
