I guess it would make sense that they called them Packards as Packard was owned by Studebaker at the time( I think). I have a original shop manual with 4wd supplement, and on the cover it says Studebaker-Packard corp.
Did you know that Studebaker sourced all the parts for the 4x4 conversion from NAPCO? The front end looks like a off the shelf Dana 44 to me. the transfer case is a Spicer Model 23.
