the intent of the design is a lower range for big trucks to haul heavy loads on a jobsite. The higher range allows for the big loaded truck to travel at highway speeds.
Those who desired a lower rpm at highway speeds, or a lower gear for off-road use, purchased an auxiliary transmission, such as Brown-Lipe. To me, thats where the objective of higher highway speeds lies.
There were no 2 spd rears made to match a 4wd application to achieve higher road speeds.....
