TM 5-225, dated 12 December 1942. This is the manual I mentioned in my post in the thread below, titled: "Winching Question - Mark S."
It contains 84 pages of chapters covering: Cordage, Wire Rope, Chains and Hooks, Slings and Guy Lines, Hoisting Equipment, and Installations and Methods of Handling Heavy Loads. These chapters cover everything from rope knots, to wire rope splicing, including: proper terminology, calculating mechanical advantage, friction, load factors, crane signals, rigging a gin pole, boom, swinging derrick, stiff leg derrick, high line, and transoms.
The remaining 45 pages cover Engineer Hand Tools, including: wood tools, earth tools, driving tools, measuring and lzyout tools, and sharpening and metal cutting tools.
A truly great book if you can find it.
