230 oil

I bought an M37 and the oil was black. So, I changed it. It has been around the block like 6 times. So what is that, 3 miles? Oil is black again. So, does a guy use a good 15w40 and change it several times to begin cleaning er up? I am aware of the benefits of a heavy truck oil v. regular 10w30 or whatever. But, I am wondering how much sludge I could expect in there? Should a guy drop the pan? thanks, bryan
