My friend had trouble with fuel starvation in a gas engine. When he put the throttle down, the increased suction would collapse the part of the fuel line that was rubber-it was old and soft. When the revs went down, the fuel line would open up. Took a lot of work to diagnose it. I guess a T'd in gauge like that suggested would really help as you could see the flow under a load.
