I have been working extensively on this problem. There are three types of transmissions; before, after and New Process. See http://t137.com/registry/help/transmission.htm for additional reference to transmissions.
There are also at least two types of PTO's. There is a PTO to fit a before transmission, and another to fit a after transmission. The after transmission has gears that protrude 1-3/16"; however the before has gears that do not protrude as far, we suspect only 15/16" although we are trying to verify that one now.
In other words, if you have the angled drain transmission with we know to be a before, then you need a before PTO. The before PTO hangs off the transmission 1/4" less that the after one. You can make the after one work by adding a 1/4" shim between PTO and Transmission, however you will have to do something to avoid the interference with your pedals.
Also you should note your PTO drive shaft size of 1-1/8" versus 1-1/4" which some were.
