I owned a Cessna 170B for a number of years and before I bought it someone had installed a Franklin 220hp with CSP in 1979. It was tempermental at best when cranking. One day when trying to start I noticed a tendril of smoke coming from under the dash. After the initial excitement I discovered the copper gas primer line was getting hot. Turns out the mechanic had never installed a grounding strap between the engine and the engine mount and the engine was grounding through the primer line full of gas. What makes it even a little more interesting is the airplane had been annualed each year since 1979 and nobody had ever noticed this.
