Thanks. tis engine came from a W200 that had a plow on it and 71K miles, so Is suspect the constant clutching actions while plowing are what did it in.

I did fins an article on the theories of "why" it happens, although I'm less concerned on why, but looking to see if it's toasted and I need to find another engine.

The engine ran, and seems to run ok (except for a tappet noise), but as always that;s not always a good indicator.
