Will,
I need to explain myself a litte more when I say the thrust bearing is not pressure fed in that area. It is some what pressure fed, but not like a main bearing or a rod bearing is. A main or rod bearing is fed thru the oil hole in the crank, "forcing" the oil between the crank and bearing surface. After the oil is forced thru the main bearing, it is then "pushed" thru the oil grooves on the face of the thrust bearing, even though there is oil in the grooves of the thrust bearing, if the crankshaft is pushed tight against the thrust bearing when the clutch is pushed down it is not letting enough oil between the crank and thrust bearing for proper lubrication. When the clutch is released the crank moves the .005-.010, thats when the oil can properly get in, otherwise it just goes straight thru the oil groove back into the pan. This is why I say that it is not pressure fed. This is the way they have always designed the engines, and they still do the same way today, it does work, but, sometimes it wears out like yours did, not no real reason why.
Also, you don't know what the driving habits were of the previous driver of your donor. You may never have any problem after you have it rebuilt. Long posts, but I hope I helped you.
