On the new 3rd Gen Cummins engine it takes two wires to run...One to constant twelve volt & one to ignition. Then you need to run one wire to a tach sensor to trick the computer & get full RPM.
The new engine has tons more complicated gadgetry & it's fully computer controled but that being said...so are most of our daily drivers unless you're driving a 12V Cummins.
The advantage for me was strictly noise & smoke. I think the 12V engines will make way more power & better fuel economy by about 30%.
I'm doing one of each so I'll let you know which I prefer!
