Sorry for the off-topic post, but I figure a lot of you guys should know something about this. I've been thinking about getting a welding machine for home use, and I thought I'd solicit some opinions and experiences from you guys.

I won't be doing any professional welding - just projects around for the house, yard, vehicles, friends and for some acreage that I hope to buy someday, so it doesn't have to be the absolutely best, most bullet-proof, lasts 200-years setup. But I do want it to be decent quality.

I've seen and heard some things about the Lincoln Weld-pak 100 (or 110?), some good some bad. One co-worker says they are not very good quality - at least the Weld-paks that you get at Home Depot. I don't know if they are the same as other Lincoln Weld-pak welders that you get elsewhere. My co-worker says I should get a Miller.

On the other hand, I suppose I could get a stick welder for much cheaper, but then I cannot weld sheet metal so easily and I'm limited as to what type of metal I can weld, correct? I've done stick welding and got pretty good at it years ago, so that is not an issue.

What do you guys think? Or maybe you can just point me to a source for reviews/information.

Power Wagon content: It would be nice to be able to weld the sheet metal cracks in the cab that have been developing for a number of years.

Thanks,

Matt
