Legal trailer towing speed in CA is 55. With trailer brakes and an equalizer hitch you could easily tow 10,000 with a V-8 equiped Power Wagon. With the gearing top speed, empty or loaded, is 55. My 1-6 powered CJ-7 pulls a 5,000 lb trailer all over the western US. My 8,000 lb Ram pulls 19,600, a 6,000 lb PW could pull 10,000. It is all about wheelbase, trailer stability and trailer brakes. I'm not advocating that for a rookie, but it can be safely accomplished by an experienced driver.
