Re/ Working a M37 Dist to 12 Volts? Idea?!

I just pulled my dist off eBay since it did not have any bids. I had a brain storm this morning that I could remove the coil from inside it and use the 2 vent holes to run the primary coil wire and wires going to the points to a remote mount 12 volt coil and seal the openings with silicon. I do not know of a 12 volt coil that would fit inside of it. This way the dist would be not damaged, I could use the exsisting dist, wires and plugs. Anyone ever do this befor? Any thoughts on this? I will inspect the dist today if it won't work I will re/list it later. Mark H.
