My first instict was to immediatley challenge that the 230 was the most powerful light truck motor at the time. My impression is tainted by the fact that Dodge held on to that motor for so long as the other companies abandoned the old technology. In the WWII time frame you might be right, but it would be close. The pre-war Ford V-8 put out at least 85 hp and jumped to 115 by 1948. With the margin of performance being so narrow or non-existant, the simple, dependable six woudld clearly be a better choice than the flathead V-8.

There might be some odd ones out there like Reo or Hudson with good Hp ratings, but there's always an exception to the rule.

Speaking of exceptions, my Model A has a late 1931 bed with an all-steel floor.
