What you said would make sense, but the feds have closed the entire area. I suppose the local environmentalist "helped" them make the decision. Interesting that I found mention that the CIA also trained there until the 50's. The Army pulled out much earlier, with the 10th leaving in early '44 and going to Texas, before deployment to Italy.
