It's not clear what you want to know. Do you have an axle that you intend to use - or are you considering buying one from someone who might not be identifying it correctly?
The Kempner POWER WAGON Museum has $2500 worth of appropriate references. I have John Zentmeyer's POWER TRAINS AND INTERCHANGES in front of me. Using it, I would be able to look at an axle and come close to telling them apart.
I cannot list all the clues for you to ID all the types. Two pinion or four? 8 3/4" or 9 5/8"? 1 5/16" or 1 3/8" splines. Modified or original?
There are several eternal clues for differentiating a 9 5/8" from a 8 3/4" rear axle housing.
