44-45 3/4 WC centered axle I.D. ?

In Ray's article on the axle swap, he states there are 3 type axle housings that can be used, the 44-45 3/4 WC which came with a 9 5/8 ring gear having 7/16 studs or the early 40's WC with a 8 3/4 ring gear and the 1/2 WC both having 3/8 studs that must be drilled and tapped for 7/16 studs.
To I.D. a 44-45 3/4 WC axle housing, is there any way or thing other than it having 7/16 studs that one should look for to confirm thats what it is ? I really need to know tonight. Thanks,RDavis
