The hood sides are leftover from the WC series. On those vehicles a ground strap of some sort was installed. You may have some more of the early unique features - a knockout in the firewall on the left side for WW2 wiring, extra holes in the rear crossmember for the tow bar, and the right box side forward of the spare tire might have a 2-3" rolled section just like aft of the spare tire. PWA some ten years ago had a nice article about the early trucks. What is your VIN?
