I believe that Willy is on the right track. Personal experience: just after rear wheel cylinders had been replaced, truck worked fine for about 25 miles until I backed up, when the brakes locked up. Root cause was the pedal shaft adjustment was almost full out and the piston was too far into the MC.The piston would travel back just far enough to release most of the pressure after a stop when going forward - the piston has to travel past the relief hole between the piston bore and the resevoir. However, after traveling in reverse for a short distance, the rear brake shoes get "energised" (reference the brake manual from PW Advertiser) due to their non-self adjusting design. This will backload the pedal, and if there is no, or little pedal play, there will be pressure in the system. The cure is to have some pedal play by adjusting the piston shaft to ensure the the piston can release far enough to travel past the relief hole. Make sure that the pedal has 1 to 2" of play.
